Victims First Jersey is a Victim Referral Service that opened in 2021. The service offers free support and advice to anyone affected by crime in Jersey. It does not matter if the crime has not been reported to the Police, Victims First Jersey are available to help people to cope and recover after their experience of crime.
The bespoke support is tailored to each individual and contact will be made from an Independent Victim or Witness Advocate. They will work with you to create a cope and recovery plan that might include emotional and practical support. It may also include referring you to specialist services and support through the associated court case.
Our service is confidential, and unless we believe there is a risk of significant harm or it is a legal requirement, we will always protect your confidentiality and not disclose your personal details or any other information that could identify you without your permission.
The following examples explain how and when we may have to disclose information, both with and without your permission.
- We can share information with other people/agencies if we have your informed consent to do so.
- If you give us reason to believe that you or someone else is at risk of significant harm, we may need to inform another agency such as Social Services or the Police. Unless that risk is imminent, we will discuss any concerns with you before disclosing any information.
- If we suspect that a child or young person is at risk of harm we must inform Children’s Services or Police.
